It's been some time since my last entry. The fact that I stopped blogging (this change of habit) correspond to the various changes in my life. Life during this time has well, simply seem to get busier. Actually, I think I'm simply getting more occupied right now. The way I see it, I'll only get busier with the passage of time.

How much more occupied am I really? During this period of self-enforced absence, lots had happened... mainly getting very involved with my dear HF, dating, touring, and a couple of MJ sessions with her family and some dinners etc, all of which really are great experiences of a diff family environment. My introduction to her family seemed to have gone pretty well thus far.

Speaking of touring, the only one during this period actually is our trip to Taipei. A fun trip, highlighted by the world's tallest building (currently); natural hot spring up on Yang Ming Shan; the rail trip to south Hua Lien along the scenic west coast of Taiwan with the Pacific on our left and mountain ranges on our right; and of course the food! We practically ate our way thru the streets of Taipei. Well it could have been most wonderful if we really could embarked on a trail of "mai dong xi, chi dong xi, mai dong xi, chi dong xi". But TP is kinda ex and we could not find bargains that we don't oredi have here, so it was really just "chi dong xi".

During this period, a new posting also came by... recalling my own debate on where to go in a much earlier entry, having settled down pretty comfortably at 1 post, too comfortably maybe, at the end of the day, I need not have worried about any posting cos when it really came, I had no say anyway. So here I am, officially posted to my new place while still physically in Taipei haha. Thus very next day I returned from TP also happened to be my very 1st day at new office. Had been settling down quite well since then (9th June to be exact). But admittedly, it's been a month but things are still in a kinda warm up stage as there's oredi a mail received that I could anticipate a much busier schedule at work...

Of course in life, one thing always lead to another. A new posting meant that my travel plans and pattern faced major upheavel. With everything in mind and for necessary convenience, I had also gotten myself a 2nd hand Renault Kangoo. I'm very proud to say that's my very first continental make having only previously rode a Honda Deauville, however, i'm well aware there's still some distance to owning my first continental junior exec. Continental commercial really suffice for now I guess =)

So with the extra key now occupying my pocket, I must admit the convenience and flexibility that I am currently enjoying. Going places that I would not have gone to normally, like picking hf up from Sembawang and then going to Jln Kayu for prata, and the kinda plan to head for chomp chomp after a movie at cineleisure was non-existent b4 the arrival of my lovely Kangoo. The private driving lessons to get hf to have more confidence driving under real road conditions had been very fulfilling. Not to mention my own driving skill development =) More and more, it feels like the car is getting slower, but arguably, it's actually I'm getting faster! Alrite, corny joke here quoted from Initial D but I got so fast... that

1. I raced a certain Coca Cola car along ECP, b4 both cars proceeded to hog ECP lane 2 and 3 at 60km/h (all these after a nite out at wine bar, but drinking did not get abusive that nite)

2. I recently got caught for speeding along ECP while on my way to work. My clocked speed: 87km/h. Damn that's kinda embarassing and I still feel very sore abt it. It's just what hokkien term as "Sueh" but this is pretty much to the max I should add cos I was simply overtaking a string of 3 slow moving vehicles, and plus I was below ECP speed limit. Too bad, the lower price of burning diesel comes with the restriction on vehicle speed limit which stand at an almost obscenely slow 70km/h.

Prep course at smu had oredi been completed with the most notable lesson being having to digest a whole semester of undergrad finacial accounting syllabus in a whole Sat. So the real thing is gonna start come next Tue and I just hope I am able to cope. So here's another indicator pointing me towards how busy and very much more occupied in the coming months as I learn to juggle increasing work load, part time course and of course family and friends. Sad to say I have a feeling the latter is gonna suffer a bit (or could have oredi) so I guess I could seek some understanding here =)

So tonite becomes a rare occurence that I sit in front of PC for a more extended time. Having some time to relax during duty haha... but getting back to work soon man.

All these said, I definitely will opt for this busier, more occpupied and with that more fulfilment life than one that I find myself having lotsa spare time.

Before logging off, I just have to come to the hottest topic that is currently flooding the media. You guessed it, it's the NKF "scandal". I am so apalled to now understand how NKF make use of their funds wisely, so much so that subsidies for patients (numbered @ 2000 n not the 3000 initially MISquoted) totalled $7m but one man who ain't that needy received from the public donations 600k to be his remuneration. Some simple math works out that it's averaging 3.5k per patient per year but 600k per person per year for this single person. And seriously it does not matter how hard who had worked to bring in the funds! Such distribution of the public donations simply does not make sense when it is known that only a little percentage donation amount gets put to its original intended purpose.

Hence, "Action-Reaction" as it was said in the charming french show Les Choristle. I decided to stop my donation to NKF since they are supposedly able to go on another 30yrs w/o donation (maybe they should only start planning their next charity show to be 30yrs from now) ... n till such time when they have more transparent accounting practice and more prudent and responsible use of publicly donated funds, and not forgetting a less well paid CEO with reduced job perks, I shall just look elsewhere to have my donation.

Watched Boeing Boeing on Sunday 17/4/05. Like it. provided quite a bit of laughter for a Sun afternoon and I like the way the actresses mimick accents, pretty convincingly, of pple from a few countries they portrayed. Anyone still considering catching this comedy, go watch it!

Went to the Zoo on Mon afternoon. Happened to be the day after the zoo had some negative publicity having had a jaguar escaped. Served no deterence for our visit as we only got to know of the jaguar incident in Mon morning having already set out. Anyway, lightning assuming lightning won't strike the same spot twice, so fear not, me n hf happily went on the "excursion" recounting the times when we were little, being led by teachers on such a trip

Guess our zoo is really not bad! grreeted by a frenly zookeeper the moment we stepped in and got  to touch an albino king snake *read: no fang, non venomous* (if not who dare to touch right). The sea lion show was pretty entertaining and it's such an eye opened that animals could be trained to exhibit such high level of intelligence. Why's our zoo not bad, cos we even had air-conditioned pavillion scattered along the paths for tired legs to take a rest while cooling down at the same time. However, on this occasion, the enclosed pavillion served more to block out the rain totally, for we would have been drenched under an open air pavillion with the kind of rain and wind. Needless to say, the air-con was smthg we didn't exactly need. The rain did not dampen our mood, we simply proceeded on with a silly game.

The highlight of the visit must be the feeding of a fish hitherto unknown to me. The Arapaima. Dangled a thawed fish, on the home-made rod the zoo-keeper had come up with, just above the surface to bait the Arapaima. Actually I think it's the dripping blood that did all the baiting haha. Then suddenly, upon hearing a very bassy explosion, in a split second, I trained my eyes on the pond but I could only glimpsed on the body of very big fish with red-colour edged scales, the fish that dangled on the rod jus a few moments b4 had gone missing. The feeding habits of this wonderful creature can well be described as "explosive". btw, hf had instinctively jumped 10 metres to safety having witness how the Arapaima snatched it prey and refused to give a try at feeding this powerful fish

Arapaima: Largest fresh water fish in the world, members of the Family Osteoglossidae, along with another more commonly known South American fish, the much smaller Arowana. so how big is the Arapaima when Arowana is considered a much smaller cousin? Here are some pics courtesy some website depicting this very beautiful fresh water fish.

The one we saw was prob slightly larger than this, but the subsequent pics show the Arapaima's "growth potential" =)

We were both quite exhausted by evening but a Ben and Jerry's ice-cream served up just at the entrance at the end perked us up abit. And of course, it was until the next day that I realised a Serval cat had sunken its teeth into a China tourists for over 2 minutes over at the Night Safari on Mon. A case of "shit coming pairs" huh? But well, the zoo is still a pretty interesting venue if u had not been there in years.

On this day 7 years ago, by this time of the night, I was 'tucked' soundly into the bed in the zinc-roofed barracks over at Pulau Tekong, posted to the infamous welfare company named Delta to embark on my BMT. I was thankful that I had not been enlisted on 1st Apr which I thought at that point in time, that it must be such a huge joke to be enlisted on April Fool's day... Glad that my military career had not turned out to be such joke afterall =) it had enabled me to progress in life and embark on a journey which I would otherwise had struggled to achieve. Thus I should dedicate whatever is left of today to the memory of the start of it all!!!

And how fast is 7 years? It has really seemed like only yesterday, but with a huge amount of events all condensed into a space-time that accelerated in tandem as I arrive where I am now 7 years later...

And I rmb the day after today some 6 years back when I was berthed over at Thailand, then running around the ship shouthing I just saw an aircraft carrier to all my mates just so that I can generate some excitement and play an April Fool's joke... Didn't work that successfully tho except for those few who were genuinely enthusiasitic about seeing an air craft carrier up close. What is the significance of this piece of memory u may ask to warrent blogging it. While we may not even rmb events that happened just 5 mins or say up to 2 days ago, this piece of memory, tagged to a pretty easily rmb date, stayed with me 6 years later. And thus I ask, how many events that happened 6 or 7 years earlier stay with you till now...
